PeaceTrees VietNam successfully organized two Explosive Ordnance Risk Education (EORE) events at Truong Xuan Secondary School in Truong Xuan Commune, Quang Ninh District and Hoa Trach Secondary School in Hoa Trach Commune, Bo Trach District, both in Quang Binh Province on May 16th and 26th 2023 respectively, thanks to the generous sponsorship of The Boeing Company.

During the summer vacation, the children are more likely to encounter explosive remnants of war while playing or doing farming work to support their families on the gardens and/or fields. For this reason, these two events helped to raise awareness of the dangers of explosive ordnances, unsafe actions that lead to explosive ordnance accidents, consequences of explosive ordnance accidents and then guidance on safe actions/behaviors to help them avoid unexpected accidents.

Unexploded ordnances still pose a big threat to local communities in many areas in the province. With the nature of curiosity, children are always the most vulnerable group to explosive ordnance accidents. For this reason, one of the safety messages emphasized throughout the event is “Do not move, hold, throw or play with explosive ordnances or any suspected ones”. Teenagers are also advised to report EOs to elders like teachers or relatives or through the provincial hotline 18001741.
